Public Transportation
To reach HLRS you can either use the S-Bahn or bus No.84, No.92 or No. 81. If you use the S-Bahn you'll have to get off at the S-Bahn station `Universität' (exit "Wohngebiet Schranne") . When using the bus get off at bus stop `Lauchhau'.
Coming from the central railway station (`Hauptbahnhof') or the city center (Stadtmitte) you can take all S-Bahn trains to `Herrenberg', `Vaihingen' or `Flughafen'. Look for the correct direction, if you are confused ask any stuttgarter. They will be pleased to help you. Get off at the station `Universität' (exit "Wohngebiet Schranne"). You will find yourself at "S-bahn - Exit Universitätsstraße" as can be seen from the campus map shown above in this page. Follow the signs to `Rechenzentrum' to reach HLRS (print the campus map for reference). It may take approx. 10 minutes to walk. A single ticket - covering 2 zones - will cost you 2,30 Euro. Tickets are only sold at ticket machines which take coins or banknotes (usually 5, 10, 20 Euro). In many hotels you can get cheap conference tickets which are valid for three days.
Coming from the airport you can either take a taxi (about 20 Euro) or the S-Bahn to the station `Universität'. After you have left the S-Bahn station (exit "Wohngebiet Schranne"). You will find yourself at "S-bahn - Exit Universitätsstraße" as can be seen from the campus map shown above in this page. Follow the signs to `Rechenzentrum' to reach HLRS (print the campus map for reference). It may take approx. 10 minutes to walk.
Comming from Vaihingen you can use the S-bahn in direction `Hauptbahnhof' and get down at `Universität' stop. It is comfortable to take Bus NO. 81 and get down at `Lauchhau'
